Children help design classroom policies that establish a cooperative and respectful learning environment at Arlington Children's Center. The curriculum is based on topics of interest that reflect the children’s developmental age and may extend for weeks or months. Children are encouraged to suggest themes and help teachers plan and research ongoing projects. Through teacher-directed and self-directed experiences, children are exposed to a variety of challenges that encourage discovery, creativity and independent exploration. In addition, group time gatherings promote an interactive exchange of ideas and information between the teachers and the children and help to develop a sense of community.
